Hello my loved ones,So sorry that my past two emails have been slacking. So here is alittle recap of the past two weeks. This week was pretty great. LastTuesday we were able to do a session in the temple. The temple istruly the house of the Lord. There is a peace in the temple thatcannot be felt anywhere...
Sorry that it's so late. Today has been crazy busy with errands. Sothis will be short. This week was good. Lots of amazing experiences with members andinvestigators wanting to change and come closer to Christ. One night we went to temple square because we were planning on goingto the family history center with some recent converts to help themwith family...
Hola everyoneHow was everyone's thanksgiving? Did you all get stuffed? Was BlackFriday crazy this year?As for me this week was good. One day we were walking and it startedto POUR. Hola hola,How has everyone's week been? I love hearing about your lives, so sendsome emails! This week has been good. Transfers were this week. Wedidn't change areas, kind of. Sister Platt and I are still companionsand we are still downtown. Our area now is only from 800 S 1700 S and500 W to 700 E. And our car...
Hola hola!
¿Cómo están? How was everyone's week? This week has been great!
First off, if you plan on sending mail sometime soon, please write on
it somewhere whether or not it is for Christmas. They are keeping our
mail for Christmas until our Christmas devotional.
Last Pday we went to the Conference Center and took a tour. It was so
fun! We went with two other sisters in our district, they are great. I
will attach some pictures of the temple and conference center.
We had a really spiritual night on Wednesday I think maybe Thursday...
But we were going to visit a potential investigator (someone who's
contact information we have and they seem somewhat interested in the
gospel). We parked our car and started walking. It was a pretty brisk
night but we stopped to talk to a lady sitting on the curb. She was
going through a really hard time in her life but we were able to give
her words of comfort as the spirit directed. She was crying and
hugging us. We were about to walk away, my companion turns around and
gives the lady her coat because she told us she would be out on the
street that night. We start walking away, but I run back fast and five
the lady my gloves because she needs them more. We walked away a
little colder but our hearts were warm and we felt Christ like love
for this stranger. THEN WE PUT YESENIA AND HER 4 CHILDREN ON DATE TO
BE BAPTIZED ON NOVEMBER 28!! Which is in less than two weeks, but
through the Lord it will all work out!
It's funny, whenever we contact people on the street, they look at us
weird and say, "I'm already a member..." Well just because you are a
member doesn't mean we don't want to talk to you haha sometimes
members don't like random missionaries talking to them.
Cute story. We were knocking on a door for a gentleman who we street
contacted a few weeks ago. His wife and granddaughter were home so we
start talking to them. Eventually the lady lets us in and we get to
help her out with her remodeling of her house. It was fun. While we
were there we were talking to the little granddaughter, who's name is
Belle. So we said that she was a princess, but of course she already
knew that. My companion said "did you know I'm a princess too?" My
companion just so happened to wear light blue and have her hair back
so the grandma said "she's Elsa!" The rest of the time we were there
the little girl was convinced that we were Elsa and Anna. I love
children. So that's an explanation of the subject line haha
I love it here and I am glad that I get to continue my work here for
at least another 6 weeks. This next transfer will be hard because we
will be walking, it will be cold, and the holidays will be happening
so it will be a little rough. But I know that if we turn to the Lord
when we are down, He will be there to pick us up. In all aspects of
life, He is there. He will always be there. Never forget His love for
you and my love for you as well.
Shout out to Emma and Ben on their mission calls! I am so excited for you both!

My hearts and prayers go out to the people in Paris. I may not know
what is going on but I am praying for them. Hopefully because of this
people will turn to their Heavenly Father for comfort.

Hola,Explanation of the subject. We went over to a members house to eatdinner. We had mole verde, bean soup, and this salsa/salad thing (whatI consider salsa they call salad... no sé) but the salad had cheese, onion, tomatoes, and what looked like peppers of some sort. But itwasn't peppers it was CACTUS so I ate cactus this week. It...
Hello family and friends,How was everyone's Halloween? Did you all get a lot of candy? Thanksfor the emails and letters! They make my week! Oh an explanation forthe title. So everyone knows who elders are (male missionaries)because they are pretty recognizable when 2 young men are wearingwhite shirts and ties. But for sister missionaries people don'trecognize us as...
Hello friends and loved ones,
How is life with news and non-restricted internet sites?
Thanks so much for the emails, they truly make my week. I try to write
back to everyone right away but I run out of time. So if I don't email
you, please know that I do appreciate your emails and I will try to
write you back eventually!
This week has been good. The weeks get better and better!
We had some great lessons with investigators and less active members.
The spirit is so powerful. I may not be able to understand a lot that
goes on in church or lessons but I can still feel the spirit. The Lord
speaks in a universal language, through the Spirit.
One day we went to the homeless shelter because we had some referrals
for there. We made sure to go during the day. We met some really nice
people, who always told us to be safe and watch out for ourselves in
this area. One gentleman did come up to us and asked us if we could
give his wife a blessing. We told him that we were not able to because
we do not hold the priesthood power of God, only worthy men of the
church can do so. So that was kind of funny, first time I was ever
asked to give a blessing, and hopefully the last haha
Whenever we street contact people that do not speak Spanish get really
thrown off with the title Hermana. People think my companion and I
have the same first name. It's always entertaining trying to explain
to people that hermana is just Spanish for sister.
I was told by 2 different people this week that I look younger than
19... One of the people that told me that, is 18 but he looks like he
could be 21.
We met this adorable family by accident this week. We had a referral
for their house. We knocked on the door and the dad answers. They just
moved here from Mexico 4 months ago. They were in a different part of
SLC but moved into our area 2 months ago. We were able to tell them
about our branch, the one that they should be going to, and we met
their girls Addy (5) and Soy (7). They are the cutest member family. A
few days later we were in the area with a primary teacher. We went by
the family's house to introduce the girls to a primary teacher. When
the dad answered the door he yelled for his two girls that the
missionaries were here. The girls came out screaming "las
misioneras!!!" And then they hugged us and gave us sweet notes. That
is why I love being a missionary. Even though we have rough days and
lessons fall through there are still sweet girls that look up to us. I
want to be an example to them and to everyone I meet. As a missionary
people look at you differently. Everyone notices you. We are
representatives of not only the church, but also of our families, but
most importantly examples of our Heavenly Father and Christ.
One last thing. Last night we were able to go to a devotional called
Luz de las naciones. It was amazing. David archuleta sang at the
devotional, so that was obviously great. And D Todd Christofferson
spoke as well. He is fluent in Spanish. It was all in Spanish. Then
after the devotional was over my companion and I went to the restroom,
and guess who I saw MADELINE FOUTZ. Oh my it was so good to see
someone from home, especially someone that is such a good example to
me of missionary work. It was definitely a tender mercy from my Father
in Heaven.
Hope everyone is doing well. Please look for the blessings from your
Heavenly Father. They are there, I promise. Sometimes it takes a
little faith to recognize them. Love you all have a great week!

Hello everybody,
This email is going to be a little all over the place. I didnt have time this week to prepare an email. So sorry in advance.
58 Stakes
68 units (stakes and branches)
600 wards
15 languages
63 companionships
135 missionaries (only about 40 are sisters)
and only 7 hermanas in our mission (so being a spanish speaking sister here is rare :))
I was pretty shocked from these statistics! But thats my mission for you!
Ummm....
This week I ate Lentil Soup AND Fish all in one night. Which is a big
deal if you knew how picky I am. during dinner I was thinking to myself,
my parents are laughing at me, I can feel it, because I was gagging
down the food. 1st of many food experiences to come I guess...
For
once in my life people can pronounce my last name PERFECTLY the 1st
time. Haha I find that really funny. Before the mission nobody could
pronounce my last name correctly, but now because I am in a spanish
area, nobody has issues with my name. Then they ask if I have hispanic
ancestors, and to make my long story simple, I just say yes.
Speaking
of spanish, my spanish is coming along pretty well. I can understand
more than I can speak. Unless I speak basic doctrine, then I am good.
But I still sound very white... so that is a problem at times. Oh and
whenever someone makes a joke and it is in spanish I never laugh because
I dont understand the joke, then I feel awkward because I am the only
one not laughing... theres that
We
have seen many miracles this week! People are progressing, going to
church and coming unto Christ. It is amazing seeing the changes of these
people in the short time I have been here. This gospel really is life
changing, we just have to have the desire to change.
One
last funny story, we were walking down the street and we walked by a
guy in his early 20's. We start talking to him and he says "Oh your
mormon missionaries. I go to the 8th ward." Then we were walking away he
said "Its hard not being in Colorado any more, I used to smoke weed all
the time, I will never stop smoking weed..." haha that was fun.
I
love it here. It has been hard but super rewarding. Miracles are
happening and lives are changing, especially mine. With the Lord by my
side I can conquer anything. I hope all is well back home. I love and
miss you all! Feel free to send spiritual quotes whenever you feel like
it!
Sorry, no pictures this week!
con amor,
Hermana Olivas
Hola everyone! This week has been good! I safely made it to SLC Thursday: last temple day. It was so good. Friday: in field orientation ALL DAY. It was a long day but it was very informational. Made me pumped for the field. Saturday: GENERAL CONFERENCE! I loved it. We got to watch it as an entire MTC....
Hola everybody. Its crazy to think that my time in the MTC is rapidly coming to an end. If you understand the song reference in my title, I love you. This week was good. To be quite honest all of my weeks are good, its hard to remember everything that happens though... Friday: We got our travel plans....
Hola people outside of the MTC fortress, How is everyone doing? I love getting emails from you all, so keep it up! This week has been pretty crazy and mellow all at the same time. I feel like that is only possible as a missionary... Lots of sickness but that is life. I mean if you don't get...
Hola! Everyone! Hope all is well in the world with cell phones and television. To be honest I don't miss my cell phone at all. I have a few questions/requests for you all though. 1) Has anyone heard about Garth Tesch and his mission call? I would like to know where he is going and when he leaves....
Holahola! Life at the MTC is grand, I can't complain. But the title of
this email is very true! This past week hasnt been that exciting. So
sorry if this email is boring. All of our days are the same. But I will
tell you about our district! (i am attaching a picture of our district
so you can match faces with descriptions) All of the guys are straight
from High School (they are babies, so precious)
Thanks for the packages and emails and Dear Elders. They make my week! Love you all!!
(on the ground from right to left)
Elder
Simmons: He is from Vegas as well! He actually knows Cole Ballard,
small world, but he went to Centennial. He is going to Seattle WA for
his mission. Super nice. We call him Mad Eye Moody sometimes because his
right eye is completely blind from a soccer accident. His companion is
Elder
Anderson: He is from Indiana going to Portland Oregon. We all have "The
Office" characters that we reflect. He reflects Oscar. Its way funny.
At first he was super quiet, but now he is not.
Middle row (from right to left)
Hermana
Mulloy: Is from Spanish Fork. She went to BYUI for a year before she
came. She is super talkative, but has an amazing spirit. Love her. Her
companion is
Hermana
Ames: We get along really well! She is very similar to my in
personality. She went to USU before the mish. She and her companion are
going to Venture CA.
Me and my comp Hermana Brown
Then
there is Elder Knowlton: He is the Dwight of our group. He is super
funny and brings us laughter when we need it. He does some amazing
impersonations of Obama and one of the teachers at the MTC. His
companion is
Elder
McConkie: He is from SLC, so I will be serving where he lives. He plays
the piano AMAZINGLY. he is our district leader. You can describe in this
statement. He ironed his t-shirt (like a normal tshirt) because it had
some wrinkles haha. He is great though
Top Row (from right to left)
Elder
Manning: He is going to Lubock Texas along with Elder Knowlton,
McConkie, and his comp Geddes. I dont know him to well because he has
been in and out of the hospital and doctors office with kidney
inflamation. Fun fun His comp is
Elder
Geddes: He is very loud. Sometimes its kinda annoying. But he has a
good heart. He is from South Jordan, I think. There are so many towns in
Utah its too hard to keep track.
Then
there is Elder Porter: He is from South Ogden going to Anaheim CA. He
always says "Por que?!?!?" and "Mi corazon!!!" We make fun of each other
a lot. His comp is
Elder
Higgs: He is very much like Creed from the office haha. But he is
interesting. He love Japanese anime and the language. So spanish is hard
for him. But he is a funny guy
Thursday:
The temple was AMAZING!! So nice to be able to do a session. We met a
guy after our session and he was hilarious. My favorite quote from his
was "The church is so freaking true its not even funny... You are a
freaking representative of Jesus Christ." Anyways he made our day!
Friday:
Plot twist. Leonor is our teacher! It is hard to see her as Hermana
Boyce and not Leonor anymore. We learned how to say "hello" in Korean
because we made friends with some elders going to Korea. We got to leave
the MTC because I had to get a Z-pack for my sickness. It was nice
getting out of the MTC walls. We played investigators and the elders
that taught us made us cry. how precious
Saturday:
Service in the morning. But I have a funny story. Hermana Boyce was
telling us how it was being an investigator for us. when she was being
taught by Elder Knowlton and Elder McConkie, they wanted to share Moroni
10:4-5 (https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/moro/10.4-5?lang=eng) but accidentally shared Ether 10: 4-5 (https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/ether/10.11?lang=eng)
SO FUNNY!!! Then when they shared that with her she said "es verdad?"
and they, not knowing that they shared the wrong verse cause it was in
spanish) said "Si es verdad!" that was funny. I fell down today, i love
embarrassing myself...
Sunday:
Mission conference. We got there super early so we were in front row.
Then we had our temple walk. Then we had a devotional by the Provo
Temple president. And then watched "Following the spirit" (or something
along that line) by Bednar. SO GOOD go watch it.
Monday:
We taught Hely. She accepted baptism! YAY! We had a grammar lesson and
taught members. It was good. We talked about the example of Christ and
being examples.
Tuesday:
Elder Knowlton and I were perfectly color coordinating. I attached a
picture. Our companions had to be in the picture so we made it work. We
had choir practice (yes I am still singing in the choir) we sang "More
Holiness Give thee" great song. I saw Alexis Brimhall/Ellis. So good to
see a familiar face!
Wednesday: nothing at all.
I have 2 funny stories though!
We
were working with our district in random pairs and we were talking in
spanish. I was with Elder Porter and he looks at me and says "I cant
take you seriously, you are too much of a white girl...." thanks porter
Then
a few days later Elder Knowlton was sitting in the middle of the room
giving each of us compliements. For me he said "Hermana Olivas you speak
better spanish than me... and most of our class" and then porter says
to himself "yeah but she sounds so white."
So thats me in a description. I can speak really well but I sound so white.
I attached a great analogy that was discovered by Knowlton in our pictures!!
con amor,
Hermana Olivas
Hola familia y amigos! Como estan? Mi tiempo en el CCM es bueno! Sickness is what I am referring to when I talk about what spreads fast... My district is AMAZING. I love them all so much, I just wish I would hug them all and it kills me that we cant hug each other. Pero everyone feels...
Here is my farewell talk for those of you who missed it or would like to read it again. Hola hermanos y hermanas. When I first received my call, to say my family and I were in shock, was an understatement. To be honest, I laughed a lot, when I read the words Utah Salt Lake City Mission,...
Wow, preparing for a mission is honestly such a wonderful experience. It may be hard at times reading the Spanish Book Of Mormon and only understanding .01% of it, BUT preparing for a mission can also be such a spiritual experience. For LDS missionaries to go on a mission, or be married in the Temple, we have to...
