TRANSFERS // week 29
10:32 AM
Hello friends and family,
I
hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and that you were able to remember
the true meaning behind Easter and why we celebrate it.
Okay
so none of you probably noticed, and I wouldn't have expected you too,
but this past transfer has been 7 weeks longs. Normally transfers are
only 6 weeks long but the MTC changed the time for how long native
speakers are in training to 3 weeks instead of 2 so all missions had to
change this past transfer in some way. So moral of this is that my
mission was extended a week. So sorry, but not really. But from now on
transfers are 6 weeks still. Speaking of transfers, nothing happened to
Hermana Ribucan and I. We are still loving it in our ghetto North Star!
This
past week has been pretty crazy. First off it snowed on Tuesday. Just
when I decided to pack up my winter stuff it snows, quite a bit
(pictures attached below) all is well. By Wednesday it was all melted.
But we woke up this morning to a fresh layer of powder in the ground. So
who knows anymore...
I
had another Hermana Blanca moment. This one is good as well. We were at
a dinner and my eye was hurting. Hermana Bocanegra was like "what's
wrong with your eye?" And I was trying to say I think I have dust in it
but instead of dust (which is polvo in Spanish) I said pavo which is
turkey. So I basically said that I have turkey in my eye.... All is
well. My companion had a good laugh though.
Friday
we had an awesome district meeting and we were able to play basketball!
We related it to helping people keep commitments. Basically it reminded
me of the quote, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Sometimes
we have investigators, or loved ones, in our lives that don't want to
commit to something in fear of failing. But it is up to us to help them
by encouraging, loving, and helping them!
Saturday
we were able to go to women's conference. And it was wonderful. So
before the mission I've never really watched/known about women's
conference. But it's so good! And to make the experience even better
they had a special choir of women and girls from the salt lake valley
from over 50 countries to represent that the church is universal. But it
was really cool because we had 5 ladies from our ward participate in
the choir. Oh AND I was able to see Hermana Huxford. So that was cool.
But i really enjoyed that in women's conference they talked a lot about
charity, service, and love. We are all children of God and it is our
responsibility to love one another and take care of each other. "Love is
making space in your life for someone else." We need to love others
just like we love our God and Savior. And the best people to start
loving are our neighbors. So go out and serve your neighbors this week.
Or if you don't even know your neighbors, GO MEET THEM!
Oh, Is anyone going to general conference? If so maybe I'll see you there! Wouldn't that be cool if we ran into each other?
Oh
another side note, or two, can someone tell Anna Hoer and Jordan
Yergensen, and basically anyone else that is engaged that I know
congratulations? Thank you! Oh and congrats to Logan West for getting
called to Lubbock Texas Spanish speaking. Only the best missionaries
speak spanish. You will do great! I know a few people in that mission!
Easter
Sunday was great. We did a special program in sacrament meeting and we
sang with the leaders of the ward. And it went really well! I loved
hearing the scriptures about our Savior and the opportunity we had to
sing many songs about His redeeming love for us. I love this time of
year with conference and Easter and all of the many more reasons we have
to celebrate our Savior Jesus Christ. I know He lives. He loves us so
much. If you haven't had the opportunity to watch the new Easter video
and share it on Facebook I would like to invite all of you to do that,
right now! Quite a few people have asked us this week where does the
tradition of Easter eggs and bunny comes from, and to be honest we
have/had no idea. And I really don't care either. I would rather tell
people about WHY we celebrate Easter instead of the traditions that we
have that has nothing to do with our Savior. We celebrate Easter because
Christ has risen, and because he rose from the dead, we can too! Isn't
that great?
Les
amo mucho. Espero que tengan una buena semana! Gracias por su amor,
ayuda, y apoya a mi.
Yo amo a Jesucristo y
esta iglesia.
(Google translate should be able to help you)
con amor,
Hermana Olivas
