Making history // week 30
10:33 AM
Hola a todos que reciben mis correros electronicos! How is
everyone doing? I hope you all had a great week! Life is going great
here in North Star. Well actually the work has been pretty slow, which
is a huge bummer, especially after being in Arbor and teaching at least
20 lessons a week to coming here and we are happy if we can teach 5-10
lessons a week. But that's okay. The Lord puts us places where we need
to be. So obviously I need to gain something from being here, and we are
here for a reason
Other than that we have made the best of it and we still love
it here. A few cool things before I get into the spiritual high that was
this weekend. So our district became a very historic district this
week. Our district now has the amazing opportunity to have the 1st Cuban
missionary ever. That's right. He came STRAIGHT from Cuba and is now
serving in Rose Park and is in our district. It is SO COOL. There are 2
branches in Cuba and it's a miracle that he knows about the church, let
alone he is serving a mission. So we are very excited about that. He is
the nicest elder and loves to talk to everyone. Let's just say seeing
him at conference was like seeing a little kid at Disneyland for the
first time. Wow I cannot even imagine what it must be like to see the
Salt Lake temple for the first time when you think that you would
probably never see it because you live in Cuba.
Oh and I also ate spam this week. I honestly felt like I was
eating a piece of fat. It wasn't gross but I wouldn't ever order it. But
I had to try it since I have a companion from Hawaii and everything.
Okay conference time. Wow, it was AMAZING. We were able to go to the Saturday morning
session and then both Sunday sessions. When President Thomas S Monson
walked into the conference center on Saturday and everyone was standing
and just watching him reverently, I received this huge feeling and
reassurance that he truly is a prophet of God. He communicates with God
and Christ. I had goosebumps, it was such a spiritual experience. I love
Thomas S Monson and I hope his health gets better. Saturday afternoon
we watched it in Spanish in the house of the Bocanegra. Goodness that
was soooo rough. It was a Spanish voiceover so we could hear the English
in the background then they had English subtitles going for us, but it
didn't match the English in the background or the Spanish voiceover.
Haha it was rough and I am going to be rereading the talks so I can
actually gain something. But on the bright side, I mostly understood the
gist of what they were saying. Sunday was a great day though. I saw
Madison Carress on my way into the conference center so that was super
cool! We had an investigator come to the session on Sunday morning
with us. She really liked if, or at least we think. She said it was
"bien bonito" so that's good. They announced 4 new temples! That's way
awesome, and one of them is going to be in Ecuador, so dad, I would like
to go with you to visit that temple when you visit your mission, even
though the temple isn't where you served... I especially loved the talks
of our beloved prophet, Thomas S Monson, President Uchtdorf, and Elder
Holland. But every talked touched my heart in one way or another and I
was able to learn and receive answers from our Heavenly Father. Then
after the last session of conference I saw Jake Trost! I got to see two
people from back at home, conference truly is magnificent.
I would just like to bear my testimony that I know that this
church is true. I know we have a living prophet hoy and his name is
Thomas S Monson. We have 12 apostles called of God on the earth. They
all receive revelation for us. They love us and want the best for us. I
know that we too can receive personal revelation if we truly seek to
find it. Heavenly Father never leaves His children. He is always there.
We truly can have personal revelation. We can communicate with God. Just
like the Bible, the Book of Mormon is a book of scripture full of the
words of God. It is true. I know that Jesus is the Christ, our Savior,
our Lord, and our best friend. He is the leader of this glorious church
and gospel. I know that this church is true. I know it, I live it, I
love it. And I hope you can too. And I would like to invite all of you
to partake of this spiritual feast that I had this past weekend. You can
watch any of the talks that were given at general conference at https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2016/04?lang=eng
and I would like to invite all of you to truly find out for yourself if
these words that were spoken are true. I know you will find an answer,
and when you do, you will find an everlasting joy that can only be found
through this gospel.
I love you all. Thank you for your love and support and prayers
for me. I can feel it. Life is great. Sometimes times are tough, but I
know the trials and happiness that I face every day are for my own
personal experience. The time is going bye too fast and it makes me
heartbroken that I cannot be a missionary forever. But that makes me
want to work even harder to help more people and to share this joyous
gospel with the time I have left. LES AMO!!
con amor,
Hermana Olivas
